GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum men's volleyball team was reverse swept by Catawba on Friday (Mar. 20) in Pioneer Arena.
The Pioneers (11-7, 0-3 IVA) were felled by the Catawba Indians (7-10, 3-0 IVA) for the second time this season in five sets: 25-19, 25-18, 21-25, 13-25, 9-15.
Justin Arrowood landed a match-high 20 kills to lead the Indians to victory. Kristian Smith dished out 43 assists, while John Clinton tallied three service aces. Defensively, both Arrowood and libero Max Adisson finished with 11 digs, as Smith and Wyatt Eastin were each credited with seven block assists.
Morgan Makovec led the way with 15 kills on a .600 hitting percentage, just ahead of a career-best 12 strikes by Donovan Nye. Reef Mathis added nine kills, followed by Aiden Roper (7), Caleb Hammann (1), and Riley Wisniakowski (1). The latter distributed 41 assists, while Roper tallied a collegiate-high five aces. Both Roper and Ty Keeble added eight digs, as Makovec contributed in six rejections.
Catawba hit .252 as a team with 50 kills and 22 errors on 111 total attempts. Tusculum hit .134 with 45 kills, 28 errors, and 127 total attacks. The Indians finished with more assists (48-44), digs (48-35), and total blocks (14-12), while the Pioneers landed more service aces (9-4).
Tusculum makes the quick turnaround to host Charleston on Saturday (Mar. 21) in Pioneer Arena at 6 p.m.
