Pioneers to host SAC Preview on Saturday, men enter region rankings this week

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's and women's cross country teams will host the South Atlantic Conference Preview meet on Saturday morning at Kinser Park.

The Pioneers will be one of seven SAC schools that will be competing at the site of the SAC Championship meet on Saturday, October 25. Also running on Saturday will be Carson-Newman, Emory & Henry, Lincoln Memorial, Mars Hill, Newberry and UVA Wise, along with members of the University of Tennessee Running Club.

The Kinser Park course (GPS address: 780 Kinser Park Ln, Greeneville, TN 37743) will be an 8-kilometer distance for the men, starting at 9:15 a.m., followed by a 6-kilometer race at 10:15 a.m. for the women.

The Tusculum men have won each of their first two meets this fall, earning first-place finishes at Roane State and at Brevard. The back-to-back wins are the first for the Tusculum men since 2003, while junior Nathan Buckeridge became the first Pioneer since 2010 to win consecutive events.

The men's team has entered the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Southeast Region rankings this week at eighth. Tusculum is one of six SAC teams in this week's region rankings, and appears for the first time since being ranked as high as fifth during the 2018 season.

Tusculum's women had a second-place finish at Roane State and followed up with a fifth-place run at Brevard. Junior Jesica Mbhamali has earned top 10 finishes in both meets for the young Pioneers, who have five freshmen among their seven runners.
