HARROGATE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University won the final three singles matches to rally for a 4-3 win over Belmont Abbey College in non-conference women's tennis Saturday morning at the Lincoln Memorial University Indoor Complex.
The Pioneers (2-2) were down 3-1 midway through singles, but pulled out the win over the Crusaders (1-3) behind three-set wins from Ylva Frafjord Landa at flight one and Emma Kotzmannova at flight two.
Tusculum earned the doubles point as Landa and Kotzmannova beat Hanley Riner and Mackenzie McCarthy 6-1 at flight one, and Carla Guasch and Sophia Amyes defeated Alexis Burkhalter and Kaitlin Nguyen 7-5 at flight two.
The Crusaders took a 3-1 lead in the match with three straight-set wins, but the Pioneers began their rally as Landa came back for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Burkhalter at flight one. Ginevra Moreno Villa defeated Riner 6-3, 7-5 at flight three to level the match, and Kotzmannova outlasted Nguyen 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 at flight two to give the Pioneers the win.
Tusculum will continue its non-conference schedule with a match at Montreat on Tuesday, Feb. 24 beginning at 11 a.m.
