GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University collected a 4-1 victory over UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Tuesday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (2-11, 1-6 SAC) won the doubles point and took the first three completed singles matches to pick up the win over the Cavaliers (7-10, 1-5 SAC).
In doubles, Valeria Diaz and Katie Bradley beat Antonella Compdonico and Christina Korakopoulou 6-1 at flight two, followed by Thilda Danielsson and Samira Butt picking up a 6-2 win at flight three over Abiela Wang and Amelia Monteith.
Butt defeated Wang 6-2, 6-0 at flight six to give the Pioneers a 2-0 lead in the match, followed by Elodie Baechler defeating Campodonico 7-5, 6-1 at flight one. Diaz clinched the win as she beat Kinsey Knox 7-5, 6-2 at flight five, with Korakopoulou permitted to complete her second-set tiebreaker with Jimena Rivera at flight three for a 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) win for the Cavaliers.
The Pioneers will play at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, March 29 beginning at 11 a.m. The Bears were 6-5 overall and 4-2 in the SAC heading into play Tuesday against Coker.
