Tusculum remains perfect at home as #39 Pioneers beat Bluefield State

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum remained undefeated at home with a 7-2 victory over Bluefield State Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's tennis action at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The 39th-ranked Pioneers (14-5) won for the seventh time in as many home matches this season against the Big Blues (1-11), who had just five players in their lineup and were forced to default one match in both singles and doubles.

In doubles, Annie McCullough and Jule Brass teamed for an 8-2 win over Wendy Rudhu and Laura Hernandez at flight one, while Sarah Baker and Lyndsey Pulliam downed Kelsi Browning and Leandrea Armbrister 8-0 at flight two.

In singles, Julia Lopez was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Browning at flight three, Pulliam beat Armbrister 6-0, 6-0 at flight four and Chrystal Pierce won 8-0 at flight five over Maggie Tien.

After the match with Bluefield State, Tusculum traveled to Wingate to prepare for a showdown for first place in the South Atlantic Conference against the 33rd-ranked Bulldogs. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday between the Pioneers, who are 8-1 in the conference, and the Bulldogs, who are 10-0 in league play and are seeking to clinch the outright SAC championship.
