Tusculum seeded second in Food Lion SAC Women's Tennis Tournament

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women's tennis team will be the No. 2 seed in next week's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament.

The Pioneers captured a share of the program's fifth SAC championship by going 7-1 in league play. Lincoln Memorial University also went 7-1 on SAC play and earned the top seed by virtue of their 5-4 win over Tusculum on April 2nd.

Tusculum and LMU will receive byes and advance to the SAC Tournament semifinal round. The top six teams in the conference advance to the tournament and all matches will be played at the Rock Hill Tennis Center in Rock Hill, S.C.

The Pioneers, under the direction of head coach Tommy Arnett, have posted a 16-3 record and are currently ranked 11th in the Southeast Region according to the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Tusculum has won 10 of its last 12 matches.

The tournament opens on Thursday, April 22nd at 9 a.m. as No. 3 Wingate University takes on sixth-seeded Catawba College, while No. 4 seed Brevard faces fifth-seeded Carson-Newman College.

Tusculum will match-up against the winner of the Wingate/Catawba match on Friday (April 23) at 9 a.m. at the Rock Hill Tennis Center. The Food Lion SAC Tournament championship match will be played Saturday, April 24th at 9 a.m.

The Food Lion SAC Tournament Champion will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Tournament.

Tusculum is in quest of its third Food Lion SAC Tournament title in school history. The Pioneers won their first SAC Tournament championship in 2004 and its latest title in 2008.
