ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Blake Thompson has
been named the South Atlantic Conference Women's Tennis Player of
the Week announced league officials Tuesday.
Thompson, a junior from Bristol, Tenn., went 2-0 in singles,
including the clinching point in Tusculum's 5-4 league win over
Brevard College. Tusculum opened the week with a 6-3 victory at
Carson-Newman College.
Thompson outlasted Brevard's Kayley Duval, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4 singles as Tusculum rallied from a 4-2 deficit to win the final three points of the day, including Thompson's match clincher in the five-hour marathon contest.
Thompson started off the week with a 6-0, 6-2 singles win over Carson-Newman's Megan Wilson at the fifth flight. Thompson and Katie Hillis also tallied an 8-3 pro set win at No. 3 doubles over the C-N duo of Wilson and Stephanie Goode.
Thompson improves to 14-0 in singles play this season, while extending her personal winning-streak to 20 consecutive singles victories dating back to last year. The Pioneers are 14-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play and have won eight consecutive matches entering Tuesday's home match with Mars Hill College.
