ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College sophomore Rachel Holmes has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in women's lacrosse for her performance in the opening week of the 2017 season, the SAC office announced Monday.

Holmes scored four goals in Tusculum's 17-6 win over Erskine in their season opener on February 4. Two of her goals came in the first half as the Pioneers built an 8-3 lead at intermission, and she followed with two more goals in the second half to help Tusculum close out the match with an 8-1 run.

In addition to her four goals, the sophomore from Norcross, Ga. added a team-high four caused turnovers, three draw controls and two ground balls in the victory.

Tusculum (1-0) will play its home opener on Thursday at 5 p.m. against Converse in a non-conference match at Pioneer Field.
