HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- Coker College broke an 8-8 tie with four unanswered goals in the game's final 18 minutes in its 12-8 win over the Tusculum College women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon. Kelsey Crow paced the Pioneers with five points.

Crow led TC (9-3, 5-2 South Atlantic Conference) with four goals and an assist while Erin Sims tallied three points on a two goals and a helper. Madison Malone had two points on a pair of assists while Cheyenne Bray and Calyn Kelly each had a goal and Rachel Del Duca registered an assist.

Crow opened the scoring with a goal in the first minute to give TC a 1-0 advantage. However, the Cobras (7-7, 3-4) answered with four unanswered goals and led 4-1 with 21:40 to play in the first half. Crow broke up the run with her second tally of the day less than a minute later to cut the lead to 4-2.

Once again though, Coker responded with offensive fire power and scored three unanswered goals to take a 7-2 advantage with 13:15 remaining before halftime. Bray stopped the bleeding with her 34th goal of the season, and then Kelly, Sims and Crow all found the back of the cage in order to bring the Pioneers within one goal of the lead at 7-6 with 5:33 remaining before the break.

A rare offensive dry spell for the first half followed Crow's third goal of the game, but Coker's Haley McCusker found the back of the cage with 43 seconds remaining in the first half to send the Cobras to halftime with an 8-6 lead.

Sims and Crow registered back-to-back goals to begin the second half as TC tied the game at 8-8 with 27 minutes showing on the clock. However, those would be the final goals of the game for the Pioneers as the Cobra defense forced Tusculum's longest scoring drought of the season. Coker scored three of the final four goals on free-position attempts as they took the first game in series history over Tusculum.

Coker outshot TC 29-21 and held the Pioneers to just seven in the second half. Kaitlyn Vela earned the win in the cage with six saves while Brooke Wagner took the loss despite making 11 stops. Danielle Holcomb led the Cobras with five points on three goals and two assists while McCusker had four scores.

Tusculum did hold a 15-6 advantage in draw controls including five from Bray. Coker held a 27-18 advantage in ground balls.

The Pioneers will be back in action on Saturday when they play host to No. 13 Queens University of Charlotte at noon.
