ROME, Ga. --- Kelsey Crow scored five goals to lead the Tusculum College women's lacrosse team to a 12-7 victory over Shorter University on Tuesday afternoon in Rome, Georgia. The win was the Pioneers' third-straight and improves their overall record to 5-1.

Cheyenne Bray had four points on three goals and an assist. Erin Sims recorded two points on a goal and an assist, while Savannah Elliott, Erin Sims, Madison Malone and Calyn Kelly also found the back of the cage for a score.

After Shelby Beverly put Shorter (1-3) ahead 1-0 with a goal in the second minute of play, TC answered with back-to-back scores from Sims and Malone to take a 2-1 advantage nine minutes into the game. The Hawks re-tied the game at 2-2 just a few seconds later, but Bray scored her first goal at the 20:08 mark of the first half and pushed TC back in front at 3-2.

Both teams traded the next four goals, and the Pioneers held a narrow 5-4 lead with just under nine minutes to play before the half. Crow had her first score of the day during that stretch, and Bray connected on her second goal. Both squads picked up the defensive intensity over the next few minutes, but Kelly scored with 1:35 remaining in the first half, and TC took a 6-4 lead at the break.

The Hawks' Mia Wiggins opened the second half scoring to bring Shorter back to within a goal of the lead at 6-5. However, Crow took over for TC and scored three-straight goals over the next seven minutes of play to give the Pioneers a 9-5 lead at the 16:10 mark of the second half. Beverly finally stopped the bleeding for Shorter with a goal to bring the deficit back to 9-6 just a few seconds later.

After 11 minutes of play without a goal, Tusculum pulled away for good with three-unanswered scores in the final five minutes of play to put the game out of reach with a 12-6 advantage. Bray and Crow each scored their final goal in that spurt, while Elliott scored the final Pioneer goal of the game. Beverly added to her tally with a score with 18 seconds on the clock, but TC came away with the five-goal win.

Kaitlin Winnie and Brooke Wagner split time in goal for TC. Winnie made the start and earned the victory in the cage with five saves. Wagner played the second half and made a pair of stops. The Pioneers out-shot the Hawks 27-20, while Shorter goalie Nicole Kube made 11 saves in the losing effort.

Malone and Kelly each had a game-high five ground balls, while Kelli McCalla had a team-high three draw controls. Beverly finished with four goals for Shorter.

Tusculum will continue its three-game spring break roadtrip on Thursday (March 12) against the University of Tampa. First draw is set for noon.
