Jillian Corum named SAC Women's Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College senior Jillian Corum has been named the 2013 recipient of the South Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Scholar Athlete Award announced league officials Wednesday. Corum will receive the award during the upcoming Food Lion SAC Golf Championship, being held Apr. 14-16 at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.

This marks the second time a Tusculum women's golfer has earned this honor that recognizes academic achievement, athletic accomplishment, community service and leadership. The SAC Scholar Athlete Award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete in each of the conference's 14 championship sports. The awards are selected by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives Committee.

Corum, a native of Knoxville, Tenn. has put together one of the top playing careers in Tusculum women's golf history. She has won a school-record five individual medalist honors during her career and was an All-SAC First Team performer last season. Corum is one of only two players in school history to have a career stroke average under 80 (79.83).

This year, she is second on the team with her 78.47 scoring average and has recorded six top-20 performances, including four in the top-five. She won her fifth career individual title in October at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.

As a business administration major, Corum carries a 3.59 cumulative grade point average and in 2012 was the first player in program history to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team. She has also been recognized as a WGCA All-America Scholar and has earned selections to the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, the TC Dean's List and the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.

On campus, Corum serves as president of the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and is active with the TC Business Club and the TC Development Office. She has spent time in Haiti building an orphanage and is a frequent volunteer with Young Life and the Greene County Ministerial Association Food Bank.

"Jillian's desire to achieve academic success is evident through the way she prepares for classes," said Dr. Michelle Freeman, Associate Professor of Business Administration at Tusculum College. "She takes on each challenge with a smile and completes these tasks diligently."

Corum joins former Pioneer Brooke Robbins, who earned SAC Scholar Athlete honors in 2003.
