ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College senior
Jillian Corum has been named the 2013 recipient of the South
Atlantic Conference Women's Golf Scholar Athlete Award announced
league officials Wednesday. Corum will receive the award during
the upcoming Food Lion SAC Golf Championship, being held Apr. 14-16
at the Sevierville Golf Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
This marks the second time a Tusculum women's golfer has earned
this honor that recognizes academic achievement, athletic
accomplishment, community service and leadership. The SAC Scholar
Athlete Award is presented to one male and one female
student-athlete in each of the conference's 14 championship
sports. The awards are selected by the league's Faculty Athletic
Representatives Committee.
Corum, a native of Knoxville, Tenn. has put together one of the top
playing careers in Tusculum women's golf history. She has won a
school-record five individual medalist honors during her career and
was an All-SAC First Team performer last season. Corum is one of
only two players in school history to have a career stroke average
under 80 (79.83).
This year, she is second on the team with her 78.47 scoring
average and has recorded six top-20 performances, including four in
the top-five. She won her fifth career individual title in October
at the Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.
As a business administration major, Corum carries a 3.59 cumulative
grade point average and in 2012 was the first player in program
history to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America®
Team. She has also been recognized as a WGCA All-America Scholar
and has earned selections to the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor
Roll, the TC Dean's List and the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll.
On campus, Corum serves as president of the school's Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter and is active with the TC Business Club and the TC Development Office. She has spent time in Haiti building an orphanage and is a frequent volunteer with Young Life and the Greene County Ministerial Association Food Bank.
"Jillian's desire to achieve academic success is evident through the way she prepares for classes," said Dr. Michelle Freeman, Associate Professor of Business Administration at Tusculum College. "She takes on each challenge with a smile and completes these tasks diligently."
Corum joins former Pioneer Brooke Robbins, who earned SAC Scholar Athlete honors in 2003.
