PINEHURST, N.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team posted a two-day score of 670 to finish eighth at the 2013 Wingate Pinehurst Challenge, which was held this week at The National Golf Club.

The Pioneers carded a final round 337 to finish in the top half of the 16-team tournament field, held on the par-72, 5,840-yard layout.

Tusculum sophomore Emee Herbert was the top finisher for the Pioneers, tallying 77-81=158, good enough for sole possession of 11th place. TC senior Jillian Corum placed 16th with her 79-82=161, while rookie Calley Lawson shot 87-84=171 to tie for 41st place. Junior Sara Howard posted back-to-back 90s to post 180 to finish 61st while sophomore Alec Cunningham finished 73rd with 94-94=188. TC freshman Kelly Horrell finished 78th with 91-101=192, playing as an individual competitor.

Host Wingate rallied to win the tournament with 634, including 309 on Tuesday to win by six shots over runner-up Armstrong (640). UNC Pembroke finished third with 641, Carson-Newman was fourth with 645, while Mount Olive and Lincoln Memorial tied for fifth place at 655. Pfeiffer was seventh with 662, followed by Tusculum, King (671), Converse (675), Limestone (685), Catawba (686), Coker (705), Otterbein (718), Anderson (740) and Barton (798).

UNC Pembroke's Meghan Moore won medalist honors with 76-73=149, winning by a single stroke over Armstrong's Jenna Birch and Elizabeth Swallow of King.

Tusculum returns to action this Saturday as the Pioneers take on LMU in a match-play event in Knoxville, Tenn.
