JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. --- Tusculum College's Jillian Corum fired a five-over-par 77 to tie for sixth place in the opening day of stroke play competition of the 71st annual Tennessee State Women's Golf Amateur Championship, held Monday at the Blackthorn Club.
Corum, a rising junior on the Pioneer golf team, has qualified for the championship flight, and will face Maggie Scott of Charleston, Tenn., in a match play contest beginning at 9:28 a.m. on Tuesday. The winner of the Corum/Scott match will advance to the round of 16 on Wednesday against the winner of Tuesday's pairing between Samantha Gotcher (Clarksville) and Megan Beane (Clarksville). The losers of Tuesday's matches will play in a single-elimination consolation bracket starting
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be played on Wednesday with the championship match slated for Thursday.
Corum posted an 80.42 stroke average this past season, which is the third best in school history and a new TC mark for sophomores. Corum captured two medalist titles this past season, winning at the Anderson Invitational and Maryville Invitational. The two wins ties a school single-season record, while her three career victories are a new TC mark. She finished seventh at the 2011 South Atlantic Conference Championship to earn a spot on the SAC All-Tournament Team.
Corum lowered her career scoring average to 81.79, which is presently the best in Pioneer history.
