GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College will host the 13th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Women's Golf Invitational, this Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.
This year's tournament field consists of teams and players representing 17 institutions from five different states including Tennessee, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina and West Virginia. Seven of the nine schools represented, which will be competing in the upcoming South Atlantic Conference Championship will be in Greeneville this week. Joining Tusculum are fellow SAC members Carson-Newman College, Catawba College, Lenoir-Rhyne University, Lincoln Memorial University, Mars Hill College and Wingate University.
The field also includes NCAA Division II squads Anderson University, Belmont Abbey College, Concord University, Erskine College, King College, Limestone College, Queens University of Charlotte and Tiffin University. Spartanburg Methodist also returns to the Link Hills for this year's event. Belmont Abbey enters this week's action as the No. 12 ranked team in the country.
The only newcomer at this year's McAmis Memorial is NCAA Division III Methodist University. The Monarchs are currently the top-ranked team in DIII. Methodist has captured a remarkable 22 national championships, including 12 in a row entering this season.
There are four previous champions of the McAmis Memorial in this year's field. Tusculum has won the title three times with its last one coming in 2000. Two-time defending champion Belmont Abbey is in quest of its third straight title. Lincoln Memorial captured the 2001 event, while Lenoir-Rhyne followed the next season by winning the 2002 title.
The opening round starts Monday morning at 11 a.m. on the 5,832-yard, par 72 layout. Admission to the two-day, 36-hole tournament is free and open to the public.
