GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum University has announced the addition of weightlifting as its newest club sport announced Josh Ealy, Vice President for Athletics.
The Tusculum weightlifting team will begin competition during the 2026-27 academic year.
Tusculum's new Director of Sports Performance Jared Carter will serve as head coach of the Pioneers newest club sport. Weightlifting is an emerging sport on the college landscape as it continues to grow at the high school level as well.
"We are excited to offer weightlifting as a Tusculum club sport this coming fall," said Ealy. "We are happy to offer this great opportunity for not only potential students, but for our current students as well. The potential in this program is strong and I have confidence in Coach Carter, that he will build this into a winning and successful program."
"I'm sincerely thankful and excited for the opportunity to bring the sport to Tusculum University. A weightlifting team isn't just about building stronger athletes- it's about building a culture," Carter added. "You're teaching discipline when no one's watching, resilience when things get hard, and pride in doing things the right way every single day. Kilos and barbells are just the tool- the real goal is developing young men and women who can carry that strength far beyond the platform."
