Tusculum seventh after day one of Warhawk Classic

MADISON, Wis. --- The Tusculum University women's bowling team went 1-4 on Friday including two matches decided by 10 pins or less in day one action of the Warhawk Classic, which is being held this weekend at Bowl-A-Vard Lanes and hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

The Pioneers (12-18) finished the day with 4,329 total pins and are in seventh place in the 12-team tournament.

Tusculum opened Friday with a convincing 949-779 Baker format win over North Central. The 949 pins had TU atop the leaderboard in the tournament after the first round of matches.

The Pioneers were defeated in its next match in an 879-810 decision to Lewis (Ill.) University.  Tusculum took on host and 10th-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater and came just short of pulling off the upset as the host Warhawks edged TU by an 888-878 margin.

Tusculum faced off against 18th-ranked Maryville (Mo.) as the Saints came away with a 1033-844 win over the Pioneers.

In the final match of the day, Tusculum lost to Upper Iowa by the narrowest of margins as the Peacocks edged the Pioneers 851-848.

Tusculum will look to bounce back on Saturday with six matches as TU is slated to face Dominican (Ill.) University, Valparaiso University, Aurora University, No. 13 Lincoln Memorial University and No. 12 Central Missouri and Marian (Wis.) University.
