Pioneers check in sixth in D2SIDA Southeast Region poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The Tusculum University women's basketball team has slipped one spot to sixth in the first D2SIDA Division II Women's Basketball Southeast Region poll of the new year, released Monday through games of Jan. 5.

The Pioneers (9-3) switched positions with Wingate after the Bulldogs (10-3) beat Mars Hill 64-48 on Saturday and Tusculum lost at home to Anderson 56-47. The Trojans (10-2) moved up one position from fourth to third with their win over the Pioneers. Tusculum's three losses this season are to the teams currently ranked first, second and third in the regional poll.

North Georgia (11-1) remains atop the rankings following a 66-56 win over Flagler, with Catawba (10-1) holding at number two after taking its first loss of the season to Carson-Newman in overtime by a 69-68 score on Saturday. Belmont Abbey (11-2) dropped a spot to fourth behind Anderson after the Crusaders lost to Barton 68-62 and beat North Greenville 65-57.

Following Wingate and Tusculum in the poll is Lander (8-3) which moved up three spots to seventh after beating Georgia Southwestern 64-52. Columbus State (7-2) remains eighth after a 74-51 win over Francis Marion, while Carson-Newman (8-4) rejoins the poll in ninth following its road overtime win over Catawba. Tied for tenth are Mount Olive (9-3), which fell from seventh after the Trojans lost 66-58 to Limestone and beat King 62-56, and Emmanuel which moved into the survey following wins over North Greenville (72-61) and Chowan (77-55).

Voting in the D2SIDA poll is conducted by selected media relations directors representing the three conference in the Southeast Region – the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.

Tusculum is on the road for a pair of games this week, visiting Mars Hill on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and Coker on Saturday at 2 p.m.
