INDIANAPOLIS --- The No. 16 Tusculum College women's
basketball team is listed prominently in the latest edition of the
NCAA Division II women's basketball statistics, ranking in the top
10 in three categories announced NCAA officials Tuesday.Tusculum (25-5) is ranked fourth in scoring offense (83.8), seventh in scoring margin (+18.4), and seventh in assist to turnover ratio (1.16). The Pioneers are also 11th in blocked shots (5.1), 18th in assists (17.6), and 17th in winning percentage (83.3).
Sophomore Jasmine Gunn is ranked 11th in the nation in assists, averaging 5.9 helpers per game while fellow second-year player Jasmine Parker is ranked 84th with 4.2 assists per contest. Parker is also 25th in the NCAA Division II with a 1.83 assist to turnover ratio while Gunn is ranked 35th with a mark of 1.75 helpers per miscue. Gunn is also ranked 71st in free throw percentage (82.5%), and 90th in field goal percentage (47.9%).
Stephany Neptune, a 2007-08 WBCA All-American, is ranked 25th in rebounding (10.3) and 46th in blocked shots (1.7). Junior Kat Spears is also listed among the top shot blockers in the land, ranking 60th with 1.5 rejections per game.
Ashli Oliver continues to be ranked among the nation's leaders in three-pointers per game, knocking down an average of 2.7 triples per contest to rank 28th in NCAA II. Nikki Van Dine is also ranked 19th in three-point field goal percentage (43.5), and 13th with three triples per game.
Tusculum begins its run in the 2009 NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Championships on Friday when the second-seeded Pioneers take on seventh-seeded Lander University (20-10) in the quarterfinal round of the Southeast Regional, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne University. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Shuford Memorial Gym in Hickory, N.C.
