This marks the second time Tusculum has earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament, as the Pioneers will be one of 64 teams competing for the national title for the second straight season. The Pioneers fell to Lander University 83-78 in the 2-7 matchup in last year's Southeast Regional.
Lenior-Rhyne University (26-4) is the top seed in the Southeast Regional after defeating Tusculum 66-57 in Sunday's Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament championship. The Bears will face eighth-seeded Anderson University (18-12).
Second-seeded Tusculum drew a familiar opponent as the Pioneers will face seventh-seeded Lander (18-10) for the second straight season in the first round. Clayton State University (22-6) of the Peach Belt Conference is the third seed and will face sixth-seeded Carson-Newman College (19-10) of the SAC. Francis Marion University (23-4) is the fourth seed and will face the No. 5 seeded University of South Carolina-Aiken (22-10).
Tip-offs for all games will be announced Monday. The winner of the single-elimination regional will advance to the NCAA II Elite Eight, Mar. 24-27 in San Antonio, Texas.
