GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University men's track and field team will send four participants to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship, which will be held May 25-27 in Pueblo, Colorado.
The Tusculum 4x100-meter relay of senior Jarvis Barber Jr., junior Tyrell Edwards, senior Marquel Pittman and junior Jordan Taylor will compete at nationals, while Edwards and Taylor are also entered in the 100-meter dash.
Tusculum's 4x100 relay is seeded seventh in the field of 15 teams, with a school-record qualifying time of 39.98 seconds set at the Lee Last Chance Open on Saturday. The quartet of Taylor, Barber, Pittman and Edwards has four of the six fastest times in the 4x100 in school history, and placed third at the South Atlantic Conference Championship meet earlier this month.
This will be the third time in the last five NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships that the Pioneers have been entered in the 4x100 relay. Last year, a group that included Barber and Pittman finished 11th overall at 40.72 seconds, while in 2018 Tusculum placed 11th at 40.56 seconds.
Edwards is seeded 16th and Taylor is seeded 17th in the field of 24 runners in the men's 100 meters. Taylor set the school record of 10.30 seconds at the Catamount Classic on April 15, only to see Edwards break it one week later with a time of 10.29 seconds at the LR Bears Invitational on April 21.
