MONTREAT, N.C. --- Tusculum University opened competition Friday at the two-day Montreat College Invitational track & field meet by winning two events and setting a school record.

Shanee Angol won the women's javelin for the second consecutive meet, while Emily Coddington ran to victory in the women's steeplechase. In the women's long jump, Destini Wilson broke the school record en route to a sixth-place finish in the event.

WOMEN'S RECAP
Angol won the javelin for the second straight week, with a best mark of 41.76 meters (137 feet), which came on her second attempt. Two of her three successful throws went beyond 40 meters, and all three of her marks were beyond the second-place finisher's mark of 38.75 meters.

Wilson tied for sixth in the long jump and set a new school record with a mark of 5.43 meters (17 feet, 9 3/4 inches). Wilson had broken the previous record of 5.39 meters (17 feet, 8 1/4 inches) set by I'Keriah Day at the 2018 SAC Championship with her third preliminary jump of 5.42 meters, which she surpassed with her final leap of the day.

Coddington ran 11:39.55 in the steeplechase to win the event by 52 seconds over runner-up Aubrey Stoddard from Anderson.

MEN'S RECAP
Kyler Hodges finished 11th in the 1500 meters and just missed his school record, running 4:06.33 to come up less than a second shy of the mark of 4:05.52 he set at the 2019 SAC Championship. Caleb Archer moved into fifth place on the school performance list in the event with a time of 4:17.53.
