Brennan named to Capital One Academic All-District Softball Team

DURHAM, N.C. --- Tusculum College senior outfielder Katie Brennan has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District 3 Softball Team for NCAA Division II, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. She earns this honor for a third straight year, becoming the first player in program history to achieve this feat.

Brennan, a native of Manassas, Virginia, has a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average as a sports science major. She advances with the other members of the All-District 3 team to the national ballot of the Capital One Academic All-America® team scheduled to be unveiled later this month.

Brennan played in all 43 games in centerfield for the Pioneers where she recorded 22 hits, including three doubles, one triple and 27 RBI. The Osbourn High School graduate accounted for a .206 batting average and was tied for the team-lead with two sacrifice flies

Brennan and the Pioneers finished the season with a 31-24 record, while finishing fourth in the South Atlantic Conference. She was a member of four teams that posted 30-win campaigns, including 2013 as the Pioneers captured the program's first South Atlantic Conference championship.

She leaves Tusculum with her named peppered throughout the program's record book. She is fourth all-time in games played (196) and games started (191). Her 11 career triples are sixth-most in TC history while her 74 RBI and six home runs are ninth and 10th, respectively in program history. Her 22 career sacrifice bunts are tied for eighth at Tusculum, while her 536 career at-bats are seventh.

Academically, Brennan is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll, the Dean's List and the Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. She is also a three-time NFCA Scholar Athlete.

To be nominated for the Capital One Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.

District 3 is comprised of colleges and universities representing the South Atlantic Conference, Conference Carolinas and the Peach Belt Conference.
