The Tusculum College softball team is once again
well-represented in the latest NCAA Division II statistics report,
through games of Sunday, April 3. The Pioneers are ranked in the
top 50 in five of the 11 team categories, while five players
account for 12 top-50 appearances on the individual
leaderboards.
As a team, the Pioneers have moved up to eighth in fielding
percentage (.974) while ranking 20th in triples per game (0.38),
22nd in double plays per game (0.43), 34th in earned run average
(2.01) and 44th in win-loss percentage (.703) among the 300
programs included in the rankings report.
Pioneer senior Erin Searcy (Coolidge, Ga.) and sophomore Elizabeth
Johnson (Greenville, Wisc.) are both ranked among the pitching
leaders. Johnson is 24th in both victories (13) and saves (24),
25th in earned run average (1.23) and 40th in both fewest hits
allowed per seven innings (5.02) and shutouts (four), while Searcy
ranks 23rd in shutouts (five), 43rd in victories (12) and 40th in
strikeouts (112).
Also ranked are senior second baseman Taylor MacDonald
(Scarborough, Ont.), junior outfielder Ashley Burke (North Augusta,
S.C.) and sophomore shortstop Lindsey Umberger (Madison, Wisc.).
Umberger is second in triples (six) and 12th in triples per game
(0.17), Burke is 17th in sacrifice flies (three) and MacDonald is
34th in triples (three).
The Pioneers (26-11 overall, 7-3 SAC) travel to Carson-Newman
Thursday afternoon for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader
beginning at 2 p.m.
