GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum College men's tennis team didn't drop a set while recording its first win of the season as the Pioneers blanked visiting Milligan College, 9-0 Friday at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (1-3) swept the Buffaloes (0-4) in doubles by identical 8-2 pro set scores, including a win by the No. 1 pairing of Lukas Winkelmann and Luis Zamora over the MC duo of Ricky Jones and Sebastian Jonsson.
Zamora posted the first win in singles competition at the third flight as he defeated Kody Horne, 6-0, 6-1. Winkelmann clinched the deciding point at No. 1 singles with his 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory against Jones.
"We played well today coming off a hard fought loss to 11th-ranked Lander earlier this week. I felt our men's team put together a good performance to get our first win of the year," said Tusculum head coach Tommy Arnett.
The Pioneers also received singles victories by Tony Bujana, Paul Wiederspahn, Stefan Vergeer and Drew Kiser.
Tusculum returns to action this Sunday afternoon when the Pioneers host Virginia- Wise for a 1 p.m. match, weather permitting.
