ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College senior goalkeeper Jorge Alvarez has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week in men's soccer for the week ending Sept. 18, the conference office announced Monday.
Alvarez allowed just one goal and made 10 saves as the Pioneers opened conference play with wins over Queens and Lenoir-Rhyne. In the 1-0 double-overtime victory over Queens on Wednesday, he finished with eight saves, with six coming in the second half and overtime. Against Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday, the native of Gijon, Spain had a pair of saves as Tusculum came back from an early deficit to beat the Bears 2-1.
On the season, Alvarez has a 1.16 goals against average and a .739 save percentage for Tusculum, which at 5-0-0, 2-0-0 SAC is off to its best start since 2008.
The Pioneers will be on the road on Wednesday for a match at Lincoln Memorial University, which will begin at 3:30 p.m.
