Alvarez named TSWA College Men's Soccer Player of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College goalkeeper Jorge Alvarez has been named the College Men's Soccer Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association.

Alvarez, a 6-1, 175-pound junior from Gijón, Spain, recorded a pair of shutouts in leading Tusculum to a 2-0 record last week.

In TC's 2-0 win at Queens, Alvarez tallied a season-high eight saves in the South Atlantic Conference opener. He followed with a three-save performance in TC's 1-0 regional victory at Barton. For his efforts, he was also named the SAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week.

On the season, Alvarez has posted three shutouts and owns a 4-1 record with a 1.00 goals against average.

He garnered All-South Atlantic Conference honorable mention accolades last season as he posted an 8-2-2 record in goal with a 0.86 GAA and four shutouts. He posted a 4-0-2 record in his last six starts in 2014 as the Pioneers captured the SAC Tournament championship.

Alvarez is majoring in sport management and is a member of the Tusculum Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

The Pioneers (4-1, 1-0 SAC) return to the pitch this Wednesday afternoon when they host Lincoln Memorial University for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
