TAMPA, Fla. --- Tusculum College rising junior
Lucas Paulini has been honored with the Premier
Development League's Goal of the Month Award for his June 6th tally
against the Panama City Pirates.Paulini, who is playing for Mississippi Brilla FC, received the monthly honor for his 31st minute strike against the Pirates, taking possession at midfield and making a run into the heart of the Panama City defense before unleashing a tailing strike into the top right corner from 25 yards out. The goal was Paulini's second tally of the season, and one of a combined six goals scored for Brilla by the four Tusculum representatives thus far.
The 2007 South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year has been a consistent source of offense for the Pioneers over the last two seasons, recording nine goals, 22 assists and 40 points en route to back-to-back All-Region campaigns. Paulini was an integral member of Tusculum's South Atlantic Conference championship squad in 2008, earning numerous honors while posting two goals, 12 assists, and 16 points as the Pioneers won a school-record 20 matches and advanced to the national quarterfinals.
The 6-0, 165-pound midfielder is one of four Pioneer men's soccer student-athletes playing for Mississippi Brilla FC of the PDL this summer, playing alongside teammates Anteneh Lemma, Scott Lucky and Nick Rich. The four have combined for six goals, 13 assists, and 25 points through 15 matches for Brilla this summer, including Lemma's team-leading six helpers.
Tusculum opens its 2009 season on Saturday, Aug. 29 when the Pioneers host Queens University of Charlotte at Pioneer Field. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Tusculum is seeking its third consecutive SAC title and its fifth appearance in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
