ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College junior goalkeeper Kevin Haggerty was named the South Atlantic Conference Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Pioneers to a victory over Brevard in their league opener on Saturday.
Haggerty made seven of his 13 saves during a scoreless second half as the Pioneers turned a 7-6 halftime lead into a 13-6 victory over the Tornados. Haggerty had six saves in the fourth quarter alone as the Pioneers were outshot 7-5 but outscored the Tornados 2-0.
For the season, the native of Suffern, New York has played all 240 minutes in goal for the Pioneers and has a save percentage of .500 while ranking fifth in the conference with 48 saves. He has recorded double figures in saves in each of the Pioneers' four games this season.
Tusculum (1-3, 1-0 SAC) returns to action on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. with a non-conference game at Walsh University in North Canton, Ohio.
