Pioneers finish fourth at Savannah Lakes Invite

McCORMICK, S.C. --- The Tusculum University men's golf team finished in a four-way tie for fourth place to wrap-up the Savannah Lakes Fall Invitational. The two-day, 54-hole tournament was held at the par-72, 7,032-yard Monticello Golf Club.

North Georgia, the second-ranked team in NCAA Division II, led wire-to-wire to claim team medalist honors as the Nighthawks finished with a five-under par 856 including Tuesday's final round 288. UNG had three golfers who finished in the top-10, led by Colby Bennett who placed fourth with five-under par 211.

The Pioneers posted a three-round score of 879 which included Tuesday's 295.

Lenoir-Rhyne finished second with 871, while Mississippi College placed third with 878. Tusculum was fourth, along with Erskine, USC Aiken (#10 in NCAA II) and Emmanuel, all at 879. Georgia College was eighth with 882, followed by host and 16th-ranked Lander (885), Anderson (885), Southern Wesleyan (889), Belmont Abbey (893), Newberry (895), Ferrum (933) and UVA Wise (936).

Emmanuel's Pietro Fenoglio captured the individual title with his 10-under par 206 which included his final round 70. He finished two shots clear of Lenoir-Rhyne Matthew McDougall (208).

Tusculum's Harrison Price was the low Pioneer of the tournament with a 54-hole career low 216 as he posted scores of 73-69-74 to claim sole possession of 11th place.

George Evans tied for 26th place with 74-73-74=221, while Fraser Laird carded 74-75-73=222 to tie for 30th. Buster O'Callaghan shot a career-best 75-78-74=227 to tie for 53rd place and Joe Stevenson rounded out the TU scoring with his 84-71-85=240.

Tusculum is back in action Sep. 22-23 as they travel to the King Invitational in Bristol. TU is the three-time defending champion of this event.
