PROSPERITY, S.C. --- The Tusculum College men's golf team finished fourth at the Honda Columbia Fall Classic Saturday at the Mid-Carolina Club. The one-day, 36-hole tournament was hosted by Newberry College.
Tusculum opened the day with 298 in the opening round and shaved eight shots off of that with a 290 on the final 18 to finish fourth. Host Newberry won the team title for a fifth consecutive year with 284-285=569. UNC Pembroke finished second with 579, while Catawba finished third with 295-291=586. The Pioneers were fourth, followed by Cape Fear, Newberry B, Southern Wesleyan (600), Newberry C (603), St. Andrews (606) and Brevard (615).
Tusculum's Nick York finished tied for fifth place for the individual title with 69-73=142. Luke Fullen tied for seventh with 74-69=143, while David Talley placed 24th with 76-73=149. Lawson George (79-75-154) and Derek Cantrell (79-75=154) tied for 36th place to round the Tusculum scoring.
The Pioneers return to action Sept. 27-28 when they host the 2010 Tusculum Fall Classic at Link Hills Country Club.
