Gibson, Legiste earn All-SAC men's basketball honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University's Trenton Gibson and Inady Legiste have been named to the 2022 All-South Atlantic Conference Men's Basketball Team.

Gibson earned All-SAC first team honors for a second straight season, while Legiste received third team laurels as selected by the league's 13 head coaches.

The duo led the Pioneers to a 19-8 overall record including a 19-5 conference mark which was good enough for third place in the SAC standings.

Gibson, a graduate student from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, led the Pioneers in scoring and assists for a third straight season. His 17.2 points per game average is third-best in the conference while dishing out 5.3 assists per contest, which is the second-highest average in the SAC this season. The three-time All-SAC standout hauled in 5.9 rebounds per game and posted a team-best 1.5 steals per game (7th in SAC). He also led the Pioneers at the free throw line where he shot 82.4 percent (7th in SAC).

Gibson, who was the 2021 SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year and Scholar Athlete of the Year, has peppered his name throughout the Tusculum record book during his 106-game career. His 1,620 career points are the sixth most in program history and is the only player in the 111 seasons of TU basketball with over 1,500 points, 600 rebounds, 400 assists and 100 steals.

Legiste, a sophomore forward from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, led Tusculum in blocked shots averaging 1.4 per game, ranking third in the league. The 2021 SAC Freshman Team choice averaged 9.9 points per game while shooting a 57.3 percent from the field, which was second on the team and seventh in the conference. Legiste also shot 14-of-29 from three-point territory for 48.3 percent while hauling in 4.1 rebounds per contest.

Tusculum was eliminated in the SAC quarterfinal round on Wednesday, dropping a 60-59 home decision to Newberry College. The Pioneers, who are ranked ninth in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll, will learn their postseason fate with the release of the national bracket on Sunday night.
