Ferguson named to Tusculum men's basketball staff

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Dionte Ferguson has been named an assistant coach with the Tusculum University men's basketball program announced TU head coach JT Burton.

Ferguson joins the Pioneer staff after spending the last two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at NCAA Division I Morehead State University.

While on the staff at Morehead State, he assisted with the day-to-day operation including scheduling, practices, weight training and team meetings, while also working with the team's forwards and centers. He assisted with in-game coaching and organized scouting reports and weekly Synergy film sessions. He also coordinated all academic development and directed summer camps, community service projects and other team activities.

"I'm excited to have Dionte join our staff. His experience as a player will add a lot of value in our recruiting and player development," said Burton. "He did a great job at Morehead State and I know he will be a great fit for our program at Tusculum."

The Prattville, Alabama native played collegiately at Morehead State from 2010-2012 where he was a part of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Championship team. In Ferguson's two seasons with Eagles, he helped accumulate more than 40 wins, one OVC championship, and a berth in the NCAA Tournament that included a monumental upset win over fourth-seeded Louisville as MSU advanced to the round of 32.

Ferguson then transferred to South Alabama at the end the 2011-12 campaign. He spent three years with the Jaguars, playing for head coach Matthew Graves. He was named to the 2015 All-Sun Belt Conference third team where he also served as team captain.

"I couldn't be more excited to join the Pioneer family and help Coach Burton continue the winning tradition he has brought to the program since his arrival at Tusculum," said Ferguson. "He is someone who has won at every level and I know under his leadership, I will continue to mold myself into the head coach I strive to be one day."

After his collegiate career, Ferguson spent more than two years playing overseas in Spain and the Philippines. In 2016, he was named to the All-EBA League second team while playing for Fundacion Lucentum, Agustinos Eras in Spain and was named the 2017 recipient of the MCBL Best Import Award with FEU-NRMF in the Philippines.

During his prep career at Prattville High School, he earned 6A All-State accolades as he recorded 24 double-doubles averaging 16.5 points and 14.1 rebounds per game during his senior season. He was the 5A-6A All-Metro Player of the Year.

Ferguson earned his Bachelors of Science degree in sport management from South Alabama in 2015 and completed his Masters of Arts degree in sport management from Morehead State in 2020.
