The Crusaders (4-1) shot 34.4 percent (22-for-64) from the field as a team, but connected on 28-of-36 free-throw attempts and forced the Pioneers (1-3) into 22 turnovers.

The Crusaders jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, but the Pioneers fought back and went on top 11-10 on a three-pointer by Addison Flynn just under five minutes into the game. From there, Belmont Abbey went on a 16-2 run to take a 26-13 lead with 9:39 left in the first half.

Belmont Abbey held its biggest lead of the first half at 30-15 on a layup by Jay Council with 5:46 remaining until the break, only to see Tusculum rattle off 13 unanswered points to pull within 30-28 with 2:42 left in the half. Jumper sparked the Pioneers with eight points during the run, including six in a row at one point.

However, the Crusaders closed out the half by making their final three field-goal attempts and forcing four Pioneer turnovers during a 12-2 run. Belmont Abbey carried a 42-30 lead into halftime behind a game-high 15 points by Good and nine from Council. Miller paced the Pioneers with 10 points, while Jumper added eight points and four rebounds.

In the second half, Tusculum trailed 54-43 with 13:22 to play, but roared back with a 13-2 run to take a 57-56 lead on a Jumper basket with 7:01 remaining. Terrone Sheffey put the Crusaders back in front with a basket at the 6:17 mark, but Flynn answered with a three-pointer to swing the see-saw back in the Pioneers' favor at 60-58 with 5:51 left.

Devin Call gave the Pioneers their largest lead of the game at 64-61 with 4:08 to play, but that would be the last field-goal attempt for the Pioneers until the final seconds of the contest. Good tied the game 64-64 on a three-pointer with 3:44 left, then gave the Crusaders the lead for good on a steal and layup with 3:11 to go.

After two free throws by Chris Davis extended the Crusaders' lead at 68-64 with 2:49 remaining, Good came up with another steal and layup seconds later to make it 70-64 with 2:38 on the clock.

Tusculum was able to cut the deficit to 71-67 on a foul shot by Jumper with 1:05 remaining, but two free throws in the final 40 seconds from Justin Kuhlman gave Belmont Abbey a 73-67 lead with just under 24 seconds to go. Sheffey added four foul shots in the closing seconds to offset late buckets by the Pioneers' Daniel O'Conner and Darius Carter.

Carter also reached double figures off the bench for the Pioneers, scoring 10 points on 4-for-7 shooting in 23 minutes. With Jumper and Carter leading the way, the Tusculum bench easily outscored the Belmont Abbey bench by a margin of 34-12.
