Peyton Derrick joined the Tusculum University football coaching staff in 2024. He served as a graduate assistant coach during the 2024 season where he worked with the TU tight ends. In Spring 2025, he was promoted to assistant coach where he mentors the quarterbacks.
During his collegiate playing career, he played quarterback at three schools including Appalachian State University, Wofford College and The Citadel.
Derrick played in six games under center in 2018 at Appalachian State. He went 13-of-22 for 186 yards and threw for a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 41 yards and a TD.
During his three seasons at Wofford (2019-2021), he accounted for over 1,400 yards of total offense and was responsible for 12 touchdowns (8 pass, 4 rush). The Conway, South Carolina native posted a completion rate of 57 percent and threw for 972 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 431 yards, averaging 7.1 yards per carry and ran for four scores. He was a member of Wofford’s 2019 Southern Conference Championship team which advanced to the NCAA Playoffs and ended the year with an 8-4 record.
After graduating from Wofford in 2021, he played his final collegiate campaign at The Citadel where he played in 10 games under center and posted over 800 yards offensively and was responsible for six touchdowns (5 pass, 1 rush).
Derrick earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wofford in 2022.
His grandfather, Julius Derrick, played football at South Carolina and was later drafted by the New York Giants.
