David Johnson was named to the Tusculum University football staff as a graduate assistant coach in the Summer of 2021. The Greenwood, South Carolina native will serve as cornerbacks coach, while assisting with all phases of the TU defense.
The 2020 Tusculum graduate played four seasons with the Pioneers where he saw action in 35 career games. He accounted for 89 total tackles at TU including 61 solo stops and 28 assists. He also finished with 11.5 tackles for loss (-39 yards) with three sacks. He also notched five interceptions and finished with 13 pass break-ups. In his 2019 senior campaign, he finished the year with 33 tackles including 22 solos with six tackles for loss and two sacks. As a senior, he tallied three interceptions and nine pass break-ups for his 12 passes defended. he recorded two interceptions and two tackles for loss in a 2019 home win over Catawba.
Johnson played his prep career at Emerald High School where he was team MVP and earned All-Conference and All-Region accolades.
He completed his undergraduate degree at Tusculum in 2020 where he majored in business informational technology and administration.
