AUSTIN, Texas --- Four Tusculum University student-athletes have been named to the NCAA Division II Football Academic All-District Super Region 2 team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Andrew Cantrell returns to the Academic All-District team for a third straight year, while Adrian Robinson, Andrae Robinson and Billy Weekley garner their first CoSIDA recognition. The Tusculum quartet will advance to the Academic All-America® team ballot, with the winners being announced next month.
NCAA II Super Region 2 consists of colleges and universities in the South Atlantic Conference, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Gulf South Conference.
The Robinson twins also become the second set of Tusculum football siblings to earn Academic All-District laurels. Cantrell's older brother Hunter, was an All-District pick in 2016.
Cantrell, a senior from Sparta, Tennessee, joins former TU All-American tight end Jarrell NeSmith (2007-2009) and All-American punter John Gregory, as the only players to earn All-District accolades three times in program history.
Cantrell has a 3.64 cumulative grade point average while majoring in chemistry and pre-pharmacy and is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll, Dean's List, Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. He was also named to the Division II Athletic Directors Association Honor Roll.
The 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America® second team choice has appeared in all 37 games of his collegiate career as Tusculum's punter where he is third in program history with 188 career punts, while his 7,211 career punting yards are third-most in the school record book. His 38.36 career yards per punt average is ninth-best in TU history and has accounted for 58 punts inside the opponent's 20-yard line (3rd in TU history).
This past season, Cantrell averaged 40.1 yards per punt, which was the third-best average in the conference and 28th in the country. Of his 48 punts, 20 resulted in fair catches, which were the most in the league. He also posted 18 punts inside the 20-yard line, which second in the SAC.
Adrian Robinson, a 5-11, 185-pound sophomore defensive back from Covington, Georgia, has a 3.88 GPA while majoring in psychology. He played in eight games in the TU secondary as he tallied 16 tackles with one for loss and a pass break-up. He has played in 12 career games at Tusculum and has tallied 19 tackles. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.
Andrae Robinson, a sophomore defensive back from Covington, Georgia, has a 3.66 GPA and is a sport management major. The 5-11, 175-pounder has appeared in nine games where he has totaled three stops on defense and special teams. He has appeared in 10 contests where he has six tackles on his defensive ledger. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.
Weekley, a 6-0, 205-pound sophomore linebacker from Gallatin, Tennessee, is majoring in biology/pre-medicine and has a 3.87 GPA. In 2021, he finished with nine total tackles including one for loss with a fumble forced and a recovery. He also has a pass break-up to his credit. He is a member of the SAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, Athletic Director's Honor Roll, Dean's List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List. He was also a recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
The Division II and III CoSIDA Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-2022 Divisions II and III Academic All-America® programs.
