ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University defensive back Jermaine Witherspoon has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week.

Witherspoon, a sophomore from Miami, Florida, recorded a career-high 10 tackles in leading Tusculum to a 24-21 win over Limestone University in the Pioneers' South Atlantic Conference opener. He finished the game with eight solo stops and two assists to go along with a tackle for loss, forced a fumble and recorded an interception.

The Pioneers (2-1, 1-0 SAC) recorded their fourth straight win over Limestone and have won in their last four league openers.

Tusculum returns to action on Saturday when they host Newberry College (2-1, 1-0 SAC) for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff at the Niswonger Sports Complex and Pioneer Field.
