ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College linebacker Deres Benn has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Defensive Football Player of the Week.
Benn, a 6-0, 207-pound senior from Chattanooga, Tennessee, recorded a game-high 13 tackles, including three for loss in Tusculum's 28-27 overtime loss at Mars Hill University on Saturday.
Benn tallied 11 solo tackles, while blocking and recovering a punt to set up the Pioneers' opening touchdown.
He is second on the team in tackles (65), interceptions (2) and pass break-ups (5). He also has 11 tackles for loss and has forced two fumbles.
Benn is wrapping up a career where he currently has 235 tackles which are the 11th-most in program history.
The Pioneers (2-7, 1-4 SAC) will be at Catawba College this Saturday afternoon for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff at Shuford Stadium in Salisbury, North Carolina.
