Tusculum downs Division I Morehead State in season opener

LOVELAND, Ohio --- The Tusculum University women's beach volleyball team was perfect on its first day of competition in 2026, including defeating Morehead State in the nightcap of the EKU/MSU Opening Weekend Tournament.

Tusculum (1-0) rounds out the event on Saturday (Feb. 21) against Austin Peay and Eastern Kentucky.

Match 1: Tusculum 4, Liberty 1
The Pioneers downed the Flames in the exhibition match up.

At the top flight, Hannah Marsh and Sylvia Liszewski won 21-13, 21-17.

The 2's of Brynn Smith and Dasha Nikolaeva took a 21-18, 21-19 decision.

The lone loss for Tusculum came at the third flight. Jordyn Anderson and Sofia Vega Barrantes were edged out in three sets by scores of 14-21, 21-15, 15-10.

Cooper George and Ryann Gallagher eked out a three-set victory at the No. 4 slot: 21-8, 16-21, 15-13.

The final scoring flight of Siri Aasgard and Ally Doty won by set scores of 21-17, 21-16.

In the exhibition sixth flight, Sofia Richmond and Solene Roussel were tied 1-1 before it went unfinished: 20-22, 23-21.

Match 2: Tusculum 3, Morehead St. 2
A medical forfeit at the third flight clinched the match for the Pioneers, keeping Tusculum perfect on the first day of action.

The clincher came at the 3's. Anderson and Vega Barrantes dropped the first set (21-19), but were leading 8-6 in the second as the MSU pair medically forfeited.

At No. 4, George and Gallagher swept Morehead State by scores of 21-19, 21-16.

Aasgard and Doty eased through the fifth flight, winning 21-7, 21-12.

Marsh and Liszewski suffered their first loss at the top flight in a reverse sweep by the Eagles, 21-10, 16-21, 11-15.

Smith and Nikolaeva were narrowly defeated by their opposites at the No. 2 slot via a 21-16, 12-21, 18-20 result.

At the No. 6 exhibition flight, MSU won in straight sets over Richmond and Roussel: 21-17, 21-13.
