KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- Tusculum senior Carlie Thornber has been selected to the United Soccer Coaches Division II Women's All-Southeast Region Team, as voted upon by the region's head coaches.
Thornber was a second-team selection at midfield after helping the Pioneers to a 10-7-1 overall record and fourth place in the South Atlantic Conference with a 7-3 league record. The Pioneers advanced to the SAC semifinals, where they were eliminated in overtime by eventual SAC champion and Final Four participant Carson-Newman. Tusculum finished the season ranked ninth in the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region poll.
Thornber started all 18 matches for the Pioneers, registering one goal and two assists for four points, and was named second-team All-SAC following the season. The Oshawa, Ontario native ranked second on the team with 1,498 minutes played, including eight matches in which she played every second.
A four-year starter for the Pioneers and a two-time All-SAC performer, Thornber finished her career with nine goals and two assists for 20 points in 71 career matches (all starts). She is also a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree and a two-time Academic All-American®.
The 10 victories this season mark the 19th time in the 21-year career of head coach Mike Joy that the Pioneers have reached double figures in wins, and Tusculum has had 20 consecutive non-losing seasons. The Pioneers have placed at least one player on the coaches' All-Region team in 18 of the last 19 years, with a total of 37 All-Region honorees.
