Tusculum leads wire-to-wire, Tomassoni birdies last hole to win medalist honors at Etowah Intercollegiate

ETOWAH, N.C. --- Tusculum College sophomore Katie Tomassoni sank a 30-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole to capture medalist honors at the 2016 Etowah Intercollegiate.  The Pioneers posted a final day 312 to finish with 623 and led wire-to-wire to capture the team title.

Tomassoni's birdie gave her a final round score of 75 and finished with a 36-hole total of 151 to win by one shot over Fiona Hebbel of King University (77-75=152).  It was Tomassoni's first medalist honor of her career and becomes the first Pioneer to win a tournament since Jillian Corum won the 2012 Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate.

Tusculum won the team championship by 11 shots over runner-up King University (634).  Belmont Abbey College finished third with 652, followed by Barton College (660) and Christian Brothers University (735).

The Pioneers placed four players in the top-seven, including three in the top-five to garner All-Tournament honors.  Joining Tomassoni on the All-Tournament Team were Cydney Murrell who posted consecutive rounds of 78-78=156 to finish in fourth place, while Ciara Rattana shot 76-81=157 to finish fifth.  Taylor White carded 82-78=160 to finish seventh, while Taylor Lambertsen rounded out the team scoring with 81-82=163 to tie for 11th place.  TC's Kelsey Haun shot 90-87=177 and tied for 26th place, p as an individual competitor.

For Tusculum head coach Bob Dibble, this marks the 19th women's team title his Pioneers have won since starting the program in 1998.

The Pioneers return home to host the 2016 Tusculum Fall Classic, next Monday and Tuesday at Link Hills Country Club.
