ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum's Dashauntè Smith has been named to the 2018 South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman Team announced league officials Thursday.
Smith, a 6-5, 185-pound guard from Montevallo, Alabama, averaged 8.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest in his 26 games of action for the Pioneers. He ended the year shooting 50.3 percent from the floor and 41 percent from three-point land. He also dished out 1.6 assists per game totaled nine blocked shot and nine steals.
The Montevallo High School product finished his rookie season strong averaging 15.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game in his last six outings of the year. During that six-game span he also shot 53.1 percent from the field. After missing his first six 3-point attempts of his career, Smith went 27-of-60 from beyond the arc for 45 percent.
Smith also shined at the free throw line where he shot 75.4 percent this season, including a stretch of 16 consecutive made free throws from Jan. 6-Feb. 7.
He scored in double figures on 10 occasions including a season-high 18 points in last Saturday's season-finale at Newberry. He tallied 17 points in three consecutive games against Mars Hill, Coker and Carson-Newman. In a home match-up with Barton, he poured in 16 markers and grabbed a season-high 12 rebounds.
The Pioneers posted a 6-21 overall record and finished the year ranked 10th in the South Atlantic Conference.
