TANNER SCORES TWICE, WOMEN'S SOCCER POSTS 3-2 OVERTIME WIN OVER MILLIGANAugust 23, 2007GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Danielle Tanner recorded a pair of goals, including the match-winner in overtime as eighth-ranked Tusculum College defeated Milligan College 3-2 Thursday night at Pioneer Field in the season opener for both teams.
Tanner's match-winning goal came with 45.2 seconds remaining in the first overtime period as she one-timed a crossing pass by Nicole Ferris to send the Pioneers to the win.
Tusculum dominated possession of the ball as the Pioneers out-shot the Lady Buffs by a 38-4 margin. Milligan keeper Rosanna Couture was peppered all night in goal as she made 16 saves, including a splendid tip over the cross bar in the final moments of regulation.
The Pioneers scored first in the opening half as Lisa Adriano bended a shot to the far post from 25 yards out at the 20:08 mark.
Early in the second half, Milligan's Kelly Foster took advantage of bobbled catch by TC keeper Megan Kurtz on a corner kick in the 54th minute, tying the match at 1-1. Less than two minutes later, TC regained the lead when Tanner recorded her first goal of the night on an assist by Ashley Steinle, moving Tusculum up 2-1.
The score would remain that way until the 72:14 mark when Becca Mauldin sent a shot into the goal area, but was misjudged by the Tusculum keeper and slipping into the net, evening the match. TC had several opportunities in the final minutes of regulation.
Tusculum also won the battle of corner kicks on the night by a 13-1 margin, including 7-1 in the second half.
Tusculum returns to action this weekend when it hosts the Pioneer Soccer Classic. TC will face West Georgia on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
