WOMEN'S SOCCER ON THE ROAD THIS WEEK FOR PAIR OF SAC CLASHESOctober 1, 2008GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tusculum College women’s soccer team is on the road for a pair of South Atlantic Conference matches this week after posting a pair of victories over Lincoln Memorial and Brevard last week to open its conference schedule.
Freshmen midfielders Devan McIntyre and Michelle Meade have provided a youthful spark off the bench for the Pioneers this season, combining for two goals and six assists in nine matches thus far. Both products of Greeneville HS in Greeneville, Tenn., Meade and McIntyre helped propel the black and orange to a 5-1 victory over Brevard on Saturday, as McIntyre scored her first collegiate goal and Meade added a career-high two assists. Meade currently leads the Pioneers with five assists and is fourth on the team with seven points thus far.
Senior forward Danielle Tanner has provided much of the offense for Tusculum in its last five matches, scoring nine of her team-leading 12 goals and recording three assists to leap into the top five in Division II in both goals (12) and points (28). A native of Toronto, Ontario, Tanner found the back of the net four times last week, scoring both match-winners and adding two assists to earn SAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
The Pioneers begin the week with a matchup against conference rival Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn. on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. Tusculum then travels to Newberry, S.C. on Saturday to take on Newberry College in the first match of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at 2 p.m.
