WOMEN'S SOCCER POISED FOR START OF SAC PLAYSeptember 23, 2008GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tusculum College women’s soccer team will square off against a pair of familiar foes this week as it begins South Atlantic Conference play following a record-setting 12-0 victory over Southern Virginia last week that featured a 52-shot outpouring by the TC offense, the highest single-match total in the program’s history.
Senior forwards Danielle Tanner and Kelly Barron scored six of TC’s 12 goals in the Pioneers’ third win of the season, each recording a hat trick to pace the Tusculum attack. Tanner, a native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, enters the week listed among the nation’s leaders in goals and points, ranking 20th with eight goals and 21st with 18 points through seven matches. The 5-7 forward currently leads the Pioneers with 29 shots and 24 shots on goal, and is tied for third on the team with two assists thus far in 2008.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Barron needed just 34 minutes to set a new career high with eight points in the match, tallying two assists and notching her first career hat trick. The 5-0 forward found the back of the net twice and was credited with two assists in the first 20 minutes of the match, completing the hat trick in the 52nd minute to climb into seventh all-time in program history with her 60th career point.
The Pioneers host Lincoln Memorial on Wednesday night in the second match of a men’s and women’s doubleheader at Pioneer Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. following the conclusion of the men’s match against Brevard. Tusculum then squares off against Brevard on Saturday in the first match of a men’s and women’s doubleheader. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
