ROCK HILL, S.C. --- The Tusculum College women’s soccer team is picked to finish fourth in the race for the 2008 South Atlantic Conference title, according to the Preseason Coaches’ Poll which was released Wednesday morning. The Pioneers received 60 total points in a vote of the league’s nine head coaches.

Tusculum returns 16 letter-winners from last season’s NCAA Tournament team, including eight starters and eight of its top ten scorers.

Lincoln Memorial University is picked to defend its South Atlantic Conference title, receiving 74 total votes as well as six of the nine first-place votes. Catawba College is picked to finish second with 65 votes and one first-place vote, followed by Carson-Newman College (64 total votes, one first-place vote), Tusculum (60 total votes, one first-place vote), Mars Hill College (42), Newberry College (34), Lenoir-Rhyne University (29), Wingate University (27), and Brevard College (10).

The Pioneers open their season in the second match of the Tusculum Soccer Classic on Friday, Aug. 29 when they face Nova Southeastern University from Pioneer Field beginning at 7 p.m.
