Posts third career hat trick to help Pioneers to 2-0 in SAC
GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Tusculum College junior forward Tramicka James scored all three goals in the Pioneers' 3-0 victory over Newberry College in a South Atlantic Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
James scored in the 19th, 25th and 57th minutes for her third career hat trick as the Pioneers picked up their third straight win to improve to 6-3-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the SAC. The Wolves fell to 6-3-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the SAC with the loss.
With her three-goal effort, James increased her team-high totals to nine goals and 21 points this season. For her career, James ranks fourth in program history in both goals (37) and points (89).
James opened the scoring at 18:05 when she took a pass from Kourtney Kavic, crossed to the front of Newberry keeper Emily Rhoades, and finished at the far post for a 1-0 Pioneer lead. Just over six minutes later, James extended the Tusculum edge to 2-0 as she received a perfect through ball from Colleen Moloney, eluded Rhoades and hit the open net at 24:10. Monica Perez also received an assist on the goal.
In the second half, James wrapped up the hat trick at 56:27 as a through ball by Perez led to a breakaway from 35 yards out, which ended up with a shot past Rhoades for a 3-0 lead.
The Tusculum defense took care of the rest, limiting the Wolves to just eight total shots and only one on goal. Freshman keeper Marissa Williams made one save for her fourth shutout of the season for the Pioneers, while Rhoades was credited with five stops for the Wolves.
Tusculum will continue its SAC schedule on Wednesday at 5 p.m. against Mars Hill at Pioneer Field.
