Tusculum College freshman goalkeeper Marissa Williams leads NCAA Division II in total saves in the first women's soccer statistical rankings of the 2011 season, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
Williams has made 53 saves through the Pioneers' first five matches, 10 more than runner-up Lizz Morris of Coker. The freshman from Canton, Mich. also ranks fifth in minutes played with 462 and 46th in save percentage at .869.
Joining Williams in the national rankings is junior forward Tramicka James, who is 11th in total goals (five) and 17th in total points (11) while ranking 29th in goals per game at 1.00.
As a team, the Pioneers rank 40th overall in save percentage at .871. Seven teams have yet to concede a goal this season and are tied for first with a perfect 1.000 save percentage.
Tusculum (3-2-0) returns to action on Sunday at Armstrong Atlantic State beginning at 2 p.m.
