James, Turner earn NSCAA All-Region honors

James repeats on first team, Turner a three-time selection

KANSAS CITY, Kan. --- Tusculum College sophomore Tramicka James and senior Courtney Turner have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Performance Subaru NCAA Women's Division II All-Southeast Region Team in women's soccer for the 2010 season, the NSCAA announced Thursday.

James was a repeat first-team selection at forward while Turner was a third-team pick at midfield after being a first-team honoree in both 2007 and 2009. They are the 27th and 28th NSCAA All-Region selections for Tusculum since joining NCAA Division II for the 1998 season, and the Pioneers have had at least one first-team All-Region pick in each of the last six years.

James, from Wilson, N.C., was named first-team All-South Atlantic Conference after she led the league in goals per match and currently ranks 15th in NCAA Division II at 0.895 goals per contest.

The Fyke High School graduate scored a team-high 17 goals this season to rank sixth on the Tusculum single-season list, while her 28 career goals are tied for fifth all-time in school history. James also led the Pioneers with 38 points and shared the team-lead in match-winning goals with three.

The two-time All-Conference and All-Region standout scored at least one goal in eight of Tusculum's last 10 matches, amassing 14 goals and three assists for 31 points over that span.  Her 17 total goals are 18th in the nation (3rd in Region), while her 38 total points are 21st (T3rd in Region).

Turner, a native of Cocoa Beach, Fla., picked up four goals and seven assists for 15 points this season, ranking her fourth on the team in points and second in assists. She dished out all seven of her assists in the Pioneers' last nine matches, and the team went 6-2-0 this season when she registered a point.

She started all 84 games of her Tusculum career without missing a contest, tied for the second-longest streak in prgram history, and accumulated 14 goals and 25 assists for 53 points. Her 25 assists are tied with current teammate Michelle Meade for fourth place on Tusculum's career list.

Turner is just the second Pioneer to be named All-SAC in women's soccer all four years of her career, and joins older sister Claudia (2003-04-05) and Tara Henderson (2001-02-03) as the only Tusculum players to earn All-Region recognition three times.

Tusculum finished the season with a 9-9-1 record, while advancing to the semifinal round of the Food Lion SAC Tournament for the 10th time since joining the league in 1999.
