Pioneers out-shoot Lady Buffs 16-5 in loss
COMMERCE, Texas --- The sixth-ranked West Texas A&M women’s soccer remained undefeated on the season with Monday’s 3-0 win over Tusculum College Monday afternoon. The match was played on the campus of Texas A&M-Commerce.
West Texas A&M keeper Kelly Skehan posted her second straight shutout on the young season, while Samantha Cameron recorded a pair of goals in the victory.
The Pioneers (0-2) dominated the pace of play, out-shooting the Lady Buffs by a 16-5 margin, including 11-2 in the second half, but Skehan was solid in goal recording six of her eight saves in the final 45 minutes.
West Texas A&M got on the board in the seventh minute as Kendal Kitchens knocked home her second goal of the season, which was assisted by Melanie Shannon.
Cameron notched her first tally of the day in the 39th minute when she scored on a breakaway, thanks to a lead pass from Lindsay McHorse to make the score 2-0 heading into the locker room.
The Lady Buffs added another goal on Cameron’s third scoring tally of 2010 when she found the back of the net on a one-on-one breakaway, which was assisted by Kitchens at the 78:26 mark.
Tusculum keeper Kelsey Cunningham tallied a pair saves and went the distance in her first career start for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers will host Milligan College on Friday night in TC’s home opener, which kicks off at 7 p.m. from Pioneer Field.
